How to Help the Caribbean

By: Staff

A special message from Skylark CEO Paul Tumpowsky

Join Us in Helping the U.S. Virgin Islands

As you know, Hurricanes Irma and Maria devastated parts of the Caribbean. These islands depend heavily on tourism and will take years to recover.

Skylark has decided to support fundraising efforts for the U.S. Virgin Islands through Bloomberg Philanthropies. While all the affected areas are in need, we think Skylark can make a bigger difference by focusing our attention on the USVI. We know and trust the people helping to manage and oversee the recovery efforts there.

In fact, Bloomberg has already demonstrated that they are putting funds to work effectively. Mike Bloomberg visited the USVI days after Irma, and Bloomberg has sent full time a project manager to oversee relief efforts over the next All proceeds go directly to the Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that’s been in operation for over 25 years.

St. Thomas, St. John and St. Croix make up a beautiful part of the United States, a part that many of us have fell in love with over the years—indeed, our co-founder and CTO, Adam, was married on St. John. They cannot do this alone, and they need our help now more than ever.

We urge you to visit, the official website for the U.S. Virgin Islands recovery effort, and make a donation. Even $20 can make a difference. If you’re interested in donating funds elsewhere, shoot us an email and we can make recommendations.

As a start-up in the luxury travel world, we've always been comfortable with doing things differently. We focus on the little details because we know that the small touches come together to make the biggest difference. In the face of tragedy and desperate need, it's time to turn our company philosophy into action. Together, we can making a positive impact on the lives of people in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I hope you’ll join us.

P.S. Much of the Caribbean was completely unaffected by the storms and is operating normally. For ideas on where to go, especially over the holidays, check out our update
